I am an Uber or Lyft driver and I just got into a car accident, what should I do?

What if you’re driving for uber and have the unfortunate chance of getting into a car accident? As an Uber or Lyft driver regardless of whether you were at fault or not, there are various steps you should take:
1. Ensure everyone is safe, including your passengers, if not call 911 to get an Ambulance to your location as soon as possible.
2. While you are waiting for an ambulance or an officer to arrive, take the time to snap photographs of the vehicles involved in the accident, the damage to the vehicles, driver license of the driver’s involved in the accident, vehicle registration of the vehicles involved in the accident and exchange contact information with all drivers and passengers involved in the accident.
3. Report your accident through your Uber or Lyft app.
4. Once the local police arrive and complete their report, ensure that all individuals involved in the accident are listed on the police report.
5. After the accident you should contact Pacin Levine, P.A. at 1-800-247-2727 and our Firm will get started on obtaining compensation for your losses due to the accident.

How do I get my car fixed if I am using my car for Uber or Lyft?

If you are at fault for the car accident as an Uber or Lyft driver for the accident, then your vehicle will need to be covered under your personal insurance. You are required to notify your automobile insurance carrier that you are using your vehicle for commercial purposes such as Uber or Lyft, prior to the auto accident. Changing the status of your vehicle from personal use to commercial use will likely cause your policy to rise in cost. On the other hand, should you opt to not inform your insurance company and reject the additional insurance offered by Uber or Lyft, then there is a high probability that your insurance carrier will deny your claim, thus refusing to repair your vehicle and rescinding your policy to inception.

As an Uber or Lyft driver who is not at fault, then you must rely heavily on the hopes that the vehicle or driver who hit your car had property damage coverage in order to have your car repaired. Should they not have property damage coverage, then you will have pay for the damages to your vehicle out of your own pocket.
